February 21, 2010 Lucie Kerley I love people. I decided that following my move down to Leicester from Warrington, I would take it upon myself to do a little documentary project. Focusing on my new adopted home. Leicester. I was interested in finding out what made the city tick. Everyday, when walking to work, I cut through Leicester’s very famous Indoor and Outdoor Markets. I am always greeted with a salt-of-the earth smile and a “Morning love!” or “Have a nice day!” from the stallholders as they unpack their wares to begin a ‘fruitful’ days trading. It is truly the best way to start your day. It makes you feel alive being surrounded by people who are honest-to-goodness grafters and whose family run businesses have been part of Leicester’s history for over 700 years. http://www.leicestermarket.co.uk/ The hustle and bustle of the markets atmosphere is one that must be experienced. A true sign of British culture. As I wander home from work, weaving in and out of stalls, stallholders shout “Any basket… £1!!” along with many other must-have deals. A verbal cacophony signalling that closing time looms near, thrown into the air to entice the public.
