Delectable dishes made with seasonal produce, by Nuno Mendes, meant great East London food coupled with impeccable service at Corner Room, @TownHallHotel, Bethnal Green, London. A very enjoyable visit.
A Sunday food day in London with a twist. I was treated to a very fancy meal by my step-mum-of-sorts, Kim (Thank you very very very much - for the food and the company.)
East London has it all! It really was a menu to make your mind wonder, see here. We (Kim and I) needed most of the dishes translating into ‘normal-folk’ food speak.
Fortunately, Jody McConnachie - step-brother-of-sorts and Chef at Michelin star fine dining restaurant Alyn Williams at the Westbury, Mayfair in London - knows his stuff. With Jody and the lovely waitresses help, we worked our way through the menu and chose a few rather exciting dishes.
My favourite, although I LOVED all of the courses, was the dessert - the colour, the presentation and the texture of the pannacotta ice cream was dreamy. I adore good food.
(Yes, dreamy. I can say that, I’m a girl.)
What we ate:
To start
- Wood roasted salsify, scallop and wild herbs
- Sea bass ceviche, tangerine & carrot
- Beef heart, buttermilk whey and celeriac
Main
- Aged beef, ash, eggs and radishes
- Cod with Portugeuse XO & coriander porridge
- Iberico pork, clams and yeast
Dessert
- Apple & hazelnut with frozen pannacotta
- Butternut squash, smoked coconut
- Rhubarb radish parfait and pickles
Cheeseboard to finish - great finger food!
To drink: Prosecco, sparkling water and beer
Total cost: £144 for three people
Verdict: Divine fine dining, perfectly proportioned, yet adventurous enough to force you out of your culinary comfort zone.
