In April 2022, I finally achieved the dream of owning my own home – a charming cottage in a leafy little village in Cheshire. Creating a sleep haven was a priority. I splurged on a luxurious Bouclé bed from Made.com and a heavenly new Tempur mattress with matching pillows to accompany the goose down ones I’d bought already (inspired by some I’d slept on at a luxury hotel stay) - throw in a couple of rustic linen sheets from H&M Home, and I’d completed the initial look.
I remember justifying the cost of these purchases in terms of £££s per night’s sleep… And given that mattresses tend to have a lifespan of anything between 7-10 years (or so my trusty Google search result informed me) I thought: THIS was THE investment into my night’s sleep that I needed to make to feel well and truly rested.
Ugrading my sleep
Fast forward a few years, and my sleep haven felt...incomplete. While I had a variety of bedding options (silk pillowcases from Liberty, colourful sets from Debenhams and John Lewis – my Christmas collection is epic!), I lacked the pièce de résistance: high-quality, crisp white sheets. You know, the kind that make you feel pampered in a luxurious hotel? Yep! Those ones.

Getting the most out of your new luxury bed linen
To ensure the bedding feels at its best when you first enjoy it - and to make sure it is super clean and soft – you are advised to wash the bed linen before putting onto your bed. My parents do a run out to Costco every few months and stock me up with HUGE vats of fabric conditioner, washing detergent and those scented ‘pop-in-the-drum for extra fragrance’ balls, plus kitchen rolls etc.

Wanna know what the best part about buying hotel quality linen? Little to no ironing! The new Soft & Strong 400 thread count bedlinen is great because not only are they fast-drying but when they are dry they have very few creases. I used an iron to press the pillow cases a little - which glided nicely over the fabric, and then gave the duvet cover bed linen a quick once over and et voila! Good to go!
