Lucie Loves… Summer ‘13 @Topshop // A few of my favourite things…
Playing dress-up is one of my favourite past-times. I’d say it’s become a hobby, almost. Whether I’m shopping for a specific event, be that a special occasion: date night, summer holiday, workwear, a night out with friends or everyday wardrobe items.
I like to make the most of my shopping trips. They are the perfect opportunity to play around with new trends (e.g. tailored white dungarees) or with styles/lengths/prints that I wouldn’t normally wear. When shopping, I like to wear loose fitting clothing, good underwear and easy to slip on shoes - it makes getting changed a gazillion times much less hassle. I think it always helps if your hair and make-up look half decent too.
Clothes can transform you. It’s true.
Just think. How much better does a man looks wearing a well-cut suit? Wearing that one piece, that special something, can give your confidence such a boost.
Fashion should be both functional and playful. I love that old saying: “Fashion fades, style remains.“
As I’m getting older, there’s no hiding the fact that I’m not going to be a spring chicken for much longer. I’m 27 (about to turn 28 this September!! Eek!)
Ok, so that’s not old, but still, it’s an age where you start thinking more about the image of the ‘professional’ person you want to portray. You think more about the quality of the clothes that you buy, the cut and length of the pieces and where those items originated.
"Pounds-per-wear” becomes more important too.
A couple of weekends ago, during dinner with friends on the delightful Broadway Markets in East London, we were mulling over the fact that people tend to ‘scope out’ an item of clothing up to 3 times BEFORE handing over their hard-earned cash.
It made me think about my own shopping habits. I’m not sure whether it’s because I’m a typical Virgo, but I like to do my research before making a new wardrobe purchase. I wondered whether it was just me that scours magazines for pieces that catch my eye. I spend hours on Pinterest looking how to pair that piece and then google around for said item online, before going into a store to try it on in person. Does anyone else faff around as much as that?? These were a few of the things that caught my eye in Topshop this summer.
A few things I liked (pictured)…
- Tapered jumpsuit (which requires decent vpl-free underwear to look good)
- zip front sleeveless playsuit
- cream fringe playsuit coverup
- cream lace playsuit coverup
- MOTO vintage denim midi dress
I go away for a two weeks in August with my boyfriend, JMG. We’re off Greek Island Hopping! How exciting! What a great excuse for a new holiday wardrobe?
Which do you like best?
Note: The lovely folk at Barclaycard got in touch and asked me if I’d share with you all my #ThingsGotHotter summer fashion recommendations. And so, as a girl who loves to shop, I was more than happy to oblige.
I received a £50 voucher and went in search of my favourite summer wardrobe essentials.
I ended up buying this beautiful Topshop Reclaim to Wear floral silk backless dress, £70. Using the £50 voucher and £20 of my own money.
