Lucie Loves… Tech //#Blogged | A girls night in with @NOWTV + @wahnails
Last week, my Tuesday evening became girls night. I was invited to spend a few hours in the gorgeous penthouse at the W London Hotel, have my nails done, enjoy a lovely massage and watch a few films on a revolving sofa - as you do.
The evening was arranged by Now TV, a new internet tv service powered by Sky. I’ve always loved a films, and I also love a bit of pampering. Since I met JMG about 5 and a ½ years ago, I’ve probably watched more incredible tv shows, films and documentaries than in the whole 22 and a bit years leading up to it.
So those who know us will understand just how much we love TV. For JMG and me, TV equals downtime - something of a rarity in London life.
If your hankering after something new to watch, some of my/our favourite TV shows include:
- Shameless
- Father Ted
- The Office
- The Inbetweeners
- I’m Alan Partridge
- Girls
- Breaking Bad
- Mad Men
- Californication
- New Girl
- Homeland
- Sherlock
- Luther
- Orange is the new black
- Suits.
JMG also has a penchant for:
- Lost
- American Horror Story (it’s a bit too scary for me)
- Arrow
- Firefly
- Strike Back
- An Idiot Abroad (available on Now TV’s entertainment package)
- It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
- Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
- Comic Book Men
- The Walking Dead (Series 1-3 available on Now TV’s entertainment package)
- Game of Thrones
- The Newsroom
- Brooklyn Nine-Nine
- Hostages
- The Blacklist
- Banshee
- Archer (2009)
- The Following
- Arrested Development
Having hectic lives mean that time spent being a couch potato (read as: immersed in a world of escapism) is hard to come by. And so, we like to be a bit particular about what comes on our screens. (Give or take a bit of XFactor, Britain’s Got Talent, Alan Carr or Jonathan Ross.)
We’ve been Netflix users for over a year now and find having an ‘on demand’ service perfect for fitting in around our schedules.
So how does Sky’s Now TV Box differ?
Now TV gives you the option of paying an introductory price of £4.99 a month for an entertainment pass, £8.99 a month for a movie pass, and £9.99 for a sports day pass.
Before having my nails done by the girls from WAHNAILS, Ben, one of the evenings hosts, explained that it’s kind of like being a monthly subscriber to Sky without having a contract. It’s pay as you go. You choose which package you want, and know exactly what you’ve got coming out of the bank.
The bonus of having a Now TV Box is that, because it’s powered by Sky, it’s got the very latest movies on there - there’s even a special Toy Story Horror film that’s not been seen anywhere else!! Great for Toy Story buffs and big movie geeks like us.
With Netflix, £5.99 a month, they often have a few new releases peppered amongst some more obscure titles (not too bad for me - I LOVE foreign films) but Now TV gazumps Netflix as it has a LOT of Disney films. Perfect for families or grown up Disney princesses.
Move over Buzz Lightyear, it’s Now TV to the rescue!
I can’t wait to get settled down in front of a film with a luscious face mask. So that I can assemble my vast collection of nail polishes and scoff chocolates with my girlies (or JMG, he might get a look in too.)
