I’ve lived in Richmond since September 2013, and have seen lots of great pubs and restaurants pop up in the area over the last 4 years.

Eating out anywhere in London is never cheap, so pizza is often my go to food of choice for a budget-friendly dinner with friends. I was invited to review The Stable pizza restaurant, Kew Bridge which is tucked just over the other side of Kew Bridge – sandwiched in between two of my other favourite local pubs: The Express Tavern and One Over the Ait.

This wasn’t my first time at a Stable Pizza joint. I was invited to one of my best mate’s birthday meals at The Stable, Birmingham, and was really impressed by the cool London vibe it had.

Think: great interior design, low, ambient lighting, a young hipster-ish crowd and great food and you’ll be able to picture it perfectly.

One of my favourite things about The Stable is that they specialises in a cider tasting board (see photos – five different 1/3 pints for £7.50). As a cider fan, I thought this was a great way of expanding my knowledge of what was on offer from small scale producers. It’s recommended that you drink from left to right – dry to sweet (if I remember rightly…)

Where it all began…

The Stable founders first started out in Dorset – hence their cider-loving roots and its pride of place on the menu. Each of The Stable restaurants menus differ slightly, depending on what local produce and suppliers are available nearby.

The vision: “Fine food and crafted cider set within an alluring atmosphere.” And they’re bang on!

I took a veggie friend of mine, and held my breath as he glanced at the menu, in search of meat-free options… He was impressed. We went for a garlic bread to share, followed by The Billy The Kid (V) Rosary goats’ cheese, caramelised onions, field mushrooms, English spinach, our fresh tomato sauce and mozzarella. Topped with roasted hazelnuts, and The Kew Garden Grazer (V) Herb roasted potato, Dorset Blue Vinney cheese, roasted Spanish onions, English spinach, our fresh tomato sauce and mozzarella.

After stuffing ourselves on a Stable-load of carbs, and craft cider, we were far too full to even think about desert.

Cheap as chips dinner options…

The Stable, Kew Bridge also do a ‘Tuck In Tuesday’ menu, from 5pm. It’s £10 for a pizza, side salad and a drink (half a pint of cider or lager, small glass of wine or a soft drink.) An absolute bargain, I say!

My friend’s joke about my obsession with pizza… it must be my 1/8th Italian roots coming through! I just can’t get enough of it. So, if you’re wondering where to eat in Kew or Richmond, I’d definitely recommend trying The Stable, and I’d love to hear about your favourite pizza places. Send over your faves, please…
