Lucie Loves... Beauty // Oh the weather outside is frightful, but some 'me time' is so delightful

So.. January is here, and it’s back to reality with a bang! Your alarm is set for some ungodly hour, your bank balance is looking severely undernourished and you’ve decided, with all the best of intentions, to put yourself on that ridiculously unsubstantial new year’s diet.

Not only that, but the winter season is upon us - dark nights, harsh winds, cold temperatures, chapped lips and snotty noses. Cheers winter!

If only we could do as hedgehogs do. Oh how I long to curl up into a cosy little ball - just wake me up when winter is over. But in reality, life for me continues at a hundred miles per hour. Aside from work, there’s still washing that needs doing, meals that need cooking, dogs that need walking,  so hibernation is, sadly, not an option. (Wow, when did I become such a grown up?!)

But do not despair. There are ways of beating those winter blues. I’m a firm believer in owning a pair of warm socks, some scented candles, and giving yourself some ‘me time’ - something I need to be a little stricter with! If you’re anything like me, you can easily squeeze a hundred and one things into your already cram-packed diary, but find it extremely difficult to find some down time for yourself.

So when I was tempted into a cosy night in front of the TV, along with the opportunity to sample Reese’s 3 Piece Tin Lip Balms and Jelly Belly Movie Mix Lip Balms, they didn’t need to ask me twice.

Lip balms galore in all of my favourite sweetie flavours, and not a calorie in sight - all wrapped up in a cute little movie package. Just what I needed for a duvet day.

When these scrummy treats dropped through my letterbox, I was quite literally like a kid in a sweetshop. Cosy socks on, candles lit, and some movie classics at the ready, I was all set for my date night for one. During these winter months, staying in is definitely the new going out.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, and these lip balms smell good enough to eat! This three piece set includes two peanut butter lip balms, a novelty pocket mirror, and comes presented in a Reese’s gift tin. It retails at £8 and is available at Topshop. I love the smell of these – mmmm, peanut butter!

Ok, hydration wise, they’re not going to be up there with your top of the range lip balms, but I love the novelty aspect of them.

The Jelly Belly Movie Mix is made up of three flavoured lip balms, and a novelty movie ticket mirror. It comes presented in a cute popcorn themed gift box, retails at £4.50 and is available at Primark.

I liked the smell of the buttered popcorn lip balm – it smells just like the real thing, and was enough to curb my sugar cravings. And what’s a movie night without popcorn, right? The cotton candy has a faint, but sweet smell to it. The cherry cola lip balm was a little disappointing. This is one of my favourite Jelly Belly flavours, but I couldn’t smell anything!

The lip balms weren’t particularly hydrating for my lips, but they retail at a very reasonable price, would make for a great gift and again, I loved them for their novelty value.

But overall, it was the Reese’s set that had my vote.

If there’s one thing I’ve taken from this blog, it’s the need to regularly schedule some ‘me time’ into my life. It’s amazing how relaxed and rejuvenated I felt after just a few hours to myself. It’s as easy to fit a little time for yourself into your diary as it is to put your dental appointments in there. So go on, love yourself - you deserve it!

Wishing you all a cosy (and very speedy) winter season!
