The Food and Lycra girls and myself were very lucky to have the NikeiD store all to ourselves. We pranced up and down, gazing at the array of Nike paraphernalia and books on display and trying out the shoes for size. We all ‘ummed’ and 'aahed’ over what colours to have on our final designs. I even took to social media to tap into the expert knowledge of some of my best trainer-loving friends on Instagram and Twitter. The Food & Lycra ladies designs were very nice too - check out their blog #weruntoeat.

Gemma and I played around designing a few different variations of the Nike Air Max 1 iD’s. I tried creating a dark pair and also a lighter pair with punchier colours.

My thought process went a bit like this: If I’m going to do this, I’m going to go a little bit crazy!

I ended up settling on a combination of grey leather and suede, purple suede, crimson laces, with a matching yellow heel and sole. The best rainbow shoes ever!!

I was a bit of a geek and ended up having my name written on the back of the heel too. These shoes are keepers. I want to be able to say - years from now - “Look at these cool trainers I made when I was doing my blog!” - just one of the very many amazing experiences that I have been fortunate to undertake since starting my own little Tumblr space.

Once you have selected your Nike iD design, if you’ve created it online, you can share it with friends via social media. Or, if you’ve whizzed up your design in one of the NikeiD store’s you will receive a miniature little Nike shoebox containing a laminated-card version of your NikeiD.com design.

My design is called 'Lucie Loves…’

4 weeks from the date of creation is when my little Air Max 1 badboy’s are supposed to be landing on my doorstep. I’ll be snapping away at my rainbow feet when that day comes.

It turns out that they day they arrive might just coincide with the We Own The Night 10K race day. What a nice little reward they’ll be. A treat to ease my sweaty, tired feet out of my Nike Free’s and into my brand-spanking new trainers!! Yeaaaah!

If you want to create your own bespoke pair of Nike Air Max 1’s or Nike Free running shoes you can have a gander online. It will cost from £120 for the Air Max 1’s and from £105 for the Nike Free’s. There are soooo many other styles to choose from too. I really like the Nike Blazer’s, which start at £85 if you wanted to custom-build your own very special pair.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my whistle-stop NikeiD journey. I certainly did, and would recommend it as a great surprise birthday treat idea for a loved one. You’d be the coolest: girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband/mother/father/aunt/uncle/grandma/grandad/brother/sister on the block! (delete as appropriate)

Thanks for reading.
