I recently got to fulfil a childhood dream of mine, which was to meet my Cake Boy crush – celebrity chef, Eric Lanlard.

I was invited by Tesco finest* to an exclusive cake decorating class at Jenius Social in London. Inspired by the Great British tradition of afternoon tea, the cake – created by Eric Lanlard – is now available to buy at selected stores across the UK.

The cake itself is coated in Madagascan white chocolate buttercream and crowned with delicate prosecco flavoured buttercream roses. It’s all part of a special collaboration between Eric and Tesco finest, to celebrate the 90th birthday of our longest reigning monarch.

Hannah Gunn, Tesco finest* Brand Development Manager, says “Having worked with Her Majesty, The Queen Mother, and other famous British icons including Elizabeth Hurley and the Beckhams, we knew there was no better partner to embark on this venture with than Eric. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary or afternoon tea, we hope the Cake Fit for a Queen will help customers celebrate in true British style.”

Our #cakefitforaqueen masterclass was great fun. Admittedly, I’m not a Great British Bakeoff Fan Girl (yet)…

So, I felt more than a little bit out of my depth, as I looked about and saw the other (obviously) expert food and baking bloggers, getting to grips with a piping bag, lashings of buttercream and fluffy layers of sponge.

“Just think of it as a canvas…” I muttered to myself, already a bit tipsy from the glass of prosecco I’d been sipping (on an empty stomach!) between photo opps of Eric…

I’m not sure whether it was the crazy music soundtrack or the bubbles that inspired my Jackson Pollock-esq cake art. Either way, I was picked as one of Eric’s three lucky winners, and given a copy of his new book: Eric Lanlard’s Afternoon Tea. Yessss!

If you’re having a bit of a summer party this weekend – and manage to get your hands on this cake – have a lovely time!
