If you’re a fan of Sherlock Holmes you will LOVE this latest offering from funny men Bob and Barry Cryer. Mrs Hudson’s Christmas Corker is showing at the very wonderful Wilton’s Music Hall until 31st December 2014 and tells the story of Sherlock Holmes from his landlady’s perspective. A couple of weeks ago JMG and I were invited to attend the press night and had a right hoot!

People who pride themselves in having a great sense of humour, laugh at the ridiculous and revel in sublime silliness should definitely go and see this fantastic comedy. JMG and I are fans of Monty Python, Vic and Bob, The Mighty Boosh, and The League of Gentlemen, so if you’ve seen any of those, you’ll have an idea of where I’m going with this comparison… There was something very surreal about this festive performance that echoed a little something from all of the above, in a very good way.

Even The Mahogany Bar at Wilton’s is a treat on the eye, with a very nice range of ciders and ales to boot. The music hall is a grade II listed venue a short walk from Tower Hill tube. It has a rather romantic feel to it. I was immediately awestruck and fell a little bit in love with the place. If we had seen Wilton’s before finding our existing wedding venue, I would have been very interested in finding out how much this place would be to hire for such a special event. Oh well…

Described by some as having a decaying opulence, it’s a space that is bursting with personality yet still manages to offer up an intimate feel for its theatre-goers. JMG and I enjoyed peering over the balcony to watch as the fabulous cast: Aitor Basauri, Petra Massey (even with a bad leg she was incredible!), Toby Park and Sophie Russell strutted their stuff on stage to the backing track provided by the brilliant live band.
