A night of #EnergyRunning with adidas

adidas really know how to do a campaign launch. When the rather cryptic email arrived inviting me to ‘take #EnergyRunning to the next level’, I was definitely intrigued.

I was first introduced to the Ultra BOOST in 2014, and have enjoyed wearing various colours and iterations of the design ever since for both gym sessions, fitness classes and for running along the Thames.

There were around 30 of us in total invited to the launch. A collection of lifestyle bloggers and fitness experts willing to get stuck in and give the new shoe a whirl.

We were split into four teams, and each paired with a fitness pro to get us warmed up. Ours was personal trainer, nutrition advisor and lifestyle coach, Tiago Silva

It was great to see my new blogger friend Annie ~ Tales of Annie Bean, along with familiar fitness faces Georgina Spenceley ~ Fitcetera, and Glamour’s Deputy Chief Sub Editor, Amy Abrahams

I also finally got to meet Vicki and Natalie from and was introduced to new faces Patrick McAleenanTasha Skervin, Zanna Van Dijkthe super-talented designer/photographer and fitness pin-up Loraine and the lovely Peigh from Swim Dem Crew. What a great crowd!

What’s so special about BOOST?

“The Ultra BOOST features more BOOST cushioning material than ever before, a material that offers the highest Energy Return in the running industry, delivering a consistent performance over hundreds of kilometres, in virtually any condition thanks to its unique energy capsules.” ~ adidas

We were each kitted out for the experience. I wore a pair of classic adidas running tights and a very bright yellow t-shirt, along with the newest addition to my trainer collection – the Frozen Yellow version Ultra BOOST, available at adidas.com for £130

Each handpicked #EnergyRunning team was taken on a warm up night run through Peckham to a secret destination with sensational views across London. And given an extra dose of motivation in the form of a surprise appearance from rising stars of the adidas family Chelsea F.C. and Brentford F.C. midfielderJohn Swift, 100/200m sprinter Ojie Edoburunand Commonwealth medal winning sprinter Jodie Williams

The secret destination was split into four unique levels, where each team of runners tackled a variety of challenges;

  • Level One – CHARGE. Footballer John Swift introduced a unique agility challenge all about fast footwork. Runners were challenged to get from one end of the venue to the other whilst avoiding roaming spotlights that, if they were tagged by, would send them back to the beginning of the level.
  • Level Two – CIRCUIT. At level two, runners met sprinter Jodie Williams, and a UV lit energy obstacle course. Testing them on their endurance and stamina, runners took on a circuit of tires, hurdles and slalom poles as many times as possible in a ten minute time window.
  • Level Three – SURGE. On the third floor, runners met sprinter Ojie Edoburun, who led them through Surge, an uphill 40m sprint challenge. Each runner’s pace was put to the test in a challenge that tested their speed, technique and power.
  • Level Four – UNPLUG. Personal trainers from London fitness collective 1Rebel were with each of the teams throughout and on the final level of the event they led a warm down session to finish the running experience

Each team were competing for an unknown prize. Lucky me happened to be on Team Winner and having run our little legs off all evening, we were told that our prize was a day at Chelsea FC in the adidas box!! How cool is that?! Champagne, football and a 5 course meal. High five team.

Barry Moore, adidas UK Brand Director, said: “The Energy Running movement is challenging what people think and we’re seeing individuals and groups going out and creating on the streets, paths and trails. At adidas we are leading on this movement and the event in Peckham was about giving a platform for runners to have a fun, energetic and different experience in the heart of London.”
